The World: EU won't sever ties with Iran
The European Union yesterday provoked a new transatlantic rift when it rejected US calls to sever diplomatic links with Iran, which Washington accuses of supporting Hamas, the Islamic militant group, writes Sarah Helm. The US has asked the EU to cut ties with Tehran as part of a series of tough new measures aimed at curbing Islamic militancy in the wake of the Hamas bomb attacks in Israel.
