Adoption ruling
A European court has awarded Ir pounds 10,000 damages against the Irish State after ruling that Joseph Keegan, an unmarried father, should have been consulted before his new- born daughter was handed over for adoption. The verdict is likely to force a change in Irish family law. The court also awarded Mr Keegan legal costs of over Ir pounds 44,000.
