Attempted gassing

Robin Dear, 32, a builder in Southampton, tried to gas himself in front of his former wife the night before she was due to abort their baby, an inquest was told. Linda Dear, 31, pulled off a hose running from his exhaust to the window of his van, but as he drove away he lost control, hit a wall and died. Recording an open verdict, the Southampton coroner said it was not certain Mr Dear intended to kill himself.
