A BRITISH couple accused of trying to smuggle a baby out of Romania will stand trial on 2 September, a Bucharest judge ruled yesterday. Adrian and Bernadette Mooney, of Wokingham, Berkshire, are charged with violations of Romania's adoption and border laws.
They were arrested on 8 July after guards at the Romania-Hungary border discovered a five-month-old baby girl concealed in a picnic basket in their car. If convicted, the Mooneys face up to five years' jail.
