A labourer bought a new home and lavished money on cars after stealing pounds 170,000 in old bank notes destined for Bank of England incinerators, a court was told yesterday. Kevin Winwright, 34, was paid to destroy the notes, but stole the money between September 1990 and May 1992, Harrow Crown Court, north-west London, was told. Winwright, of Writtle, Essex, was jailed for 18 months.
