Battered wife freed

Barbara Carty, a battered wife who stabbed her husband to death after he subjected her to 43 years of violent abuse, was freed by an Old Bailey judge. Mrs Carty, of Bromley, Kent, was put on probation for three years after she admitted the manslaughter of her husband Michael, 67.
