The BBC had 18 of the top 20 televised sporting audiences last year, it was revealed yesterday. Its coverage of the Barcelona Olympics filled 12 of the places, while the Grand National on BBC 1 in April attracted the biggest audience of 16 million. ITV's two entries were both Chris Eubank boxing matches.
