MICHAEL Heseltine, President of the Board of Trade, was at loggerheads with the BBC after calling on Radio 4's The World This Weekend to consider running an item on small business export successes. He is said to believe last weekend's programme over- emphasised business difficulties.

The BBC said: 'We stand by the treatment of the story last weekend. We have written back to Michael Heseltine and asked him if he would like to outline the issues as indicated in his letter.'
