'Below-stairs' affair
The former defence minister Alan Clark was at the centre of a sex scandal after a Sunday newspaper accused him of having affairs with a judge's wife and two daughters. But Mr Clark's wife, Jane, dismissed the story as 'below-stairs gossip' adding: 'But if you bed people of below-stairs class, they will go to the papers.'
