A GIRL died after a motorist ploughed into a bus queue within minutes of taking the wheel of his powerful new car, a court was told yesterday.
Witnesses allegedly saw John Wain accelerate in the car down the road, snake from side to side and mount the pavement twice before spinning around and hitting a queue of people and a brick wall.
Mr Wain, 26, of St Matthews, Leicester, never braked once in his new 2.8-litre BMW, a jury at Leicester Crown Court was told. He denies causing death by dangerous driving in the city last February.
Stacey Mawby, 12, who was waiting for a bus, died after being hit by the car. Michael Pearce, for the prosecution, said Mr Wain had hit the crowd waiting at the bus stop at 30mph. In police interviews Mr Wain had claimed that his foot had slipped and said he was 'shocked' by the car.
The trial continues today.
