A British engineer killed in Nigeria was shot dead by police and soldiers manning a roadblock in Port Harcourt, and not by robbers, it was revealed yesterday.

An inquiry into the death of Damien White, 24, from Aberdeen, has been demanded by British diplomats in Nigeria. Mr White was being driven back to his hotel by a friend when their car was riddled with bullets from behind.
