A Dickin Medal awarded to the ship's cat on HMS Amethyst, trapped by Chinese communists in the Yangtse River incident in 1949, is to be sold by Christie's in London on 11 May. The 'animal VC' was awarded to Simon for protecting food stores by catching a rat a day, despite shell wounds.
