A man who sacrificed poultry to the gods of an ancient South American religion was found guilty of cruelly terrifying a chicken by crushing its head with a mallet. Ivan Pope, 29, of Chichester, West Sussex, had now given up the religion, magistrates were told. He was conditionally discharged.
