A couple who subjected their housemaid to six months of bullying and beatings and forced her to work long hours for little pay were jailed yesterday.

Ramesh Tripathi, 32, a surgeon, was given nine months and his wife, Radha, 30, a doctor, was given three months at Leicester Crown Court.

The two were convicted last month of assaulting Cindy Dindial, 25, causing her actual bodily harm, at their home in Lincoln.
