A 87-year-old man has been charged with the murder of his 74-year-old wife.

Marian Smith was found stabbed to death at her home in Aberdare Close, Blackburn, Lancashire, on April 9.

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: "John Smith, 87, of Aberdare Close, Blackburn, has been charged with the murder of Marian Smith, 74.

"He is due to appear before Preston magistrates this afternoon."
