Police searching for missing schoolgirl Amber Peat have found a body, according to police.

Nottinghamshire Police said a formal identification of the remains is yet to take place, but Amber's family have been informed of the discovery.

Amber has not been seen since around 5:30pm on Saturday, when she disappeared from her home after what police described as a "minor argument" about household chores.

A police spokesman said: "Amber's family has been informed and we ask that the media respect their privacy at this difficult time.

"Officers are at the scene in Mansfield and inquiries are on-going. No formal identification has yet taken place."

Police thanked all who had helped in the search, particularly the Mansfield community.

Before the remains were found, Amber's mother Kelly Peat made an emotional plea at a press conference for her daughter to come home.

Breaking down in tears, her mother said: "If you're watching this, or if anybody knows where she is, just send her home. Please."

Ms Peat described how the family had returned from a "fantastic" holiday in Cornwall, where nothing unusual happened.

She added that she realised her daughter had left the house when she heard the front door slam.

"I couldn't see her anywhere - she was just gone.”

Amber’s stepfather, Danny Peat, told reporters that the teenager’s disappearance was out of character and “doesn’t feel right” as she is "not the kind of girl that would wander off".

Amber's two younger sisters have been "in pieces" since their sibling vanished, he said.

The family went on to help the volunteers who have been searching for Amber "every night" since she went missing.

“It’s overwhelming the amount of people who are out there searching all night, every night,” he said.

Superintendent Matt McFarlane said detectives were pursuing all lines of inquiry, including the possibility that Amber may be attempting to visit her biological father in Scotland.

She is described as white with long dark brown hair, around 4ft tall and of a petite build with brown eyes and a small scar above her lip.

She was last seen wearing a black Puma zip-up top, purple trainers and blue jeans.

Missing persons co-ordinator Kirsty Gittings, said: “Amber, if you are reading this appeal please get in touch with us or your parents. They are very worried about you.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
