Banker to face trial on wife murder charge

A City banker denied murdering his wife when he appeared at the Old Bailey today.

Neil Ellerbeck, 46, who worked for HSBC, pleaded not guilty to murdering Katherine, 46, at their home in Canford Close, Enfield, north London.

The banker, who stood in the dock in a grey suit and blue tie, was remanded in custody to face trial on August 10.

Ellerbeck was based at the bank's Canary Wharf headquarters in London, and was an executive in the asset management division.

Paramedics discovered Mrs Ellerbeck's body in November last year. A post-mortem examination gave the cause of death as strangulation.
