A 13-year-old boy has been charged with the murder of a man found dead in a churchyard.

The body of Steven McMyler, 34, was found near Wigan Parish Church in Wigan, last Thursday.

Greater Manchester Police have launched an investigation. One man has already appeared in court charged with murder.

The 13-year-old boy from Merseyside, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates Court charged with murder. No pleas have been entered.

Police received reports of concern for a man outside the church on Bishopgate on 6 August shortly before 7.50pm.

Mr McMyler died at the scene. Three men, aged 30, 19 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of murder and have been released under investigation, said Greater Manchester Police.

A 17-year-old boy from Merseyside has also since been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody for questioning.
