Police have launched a murder investigation after the bodies of two women were found on Thursday at two addresses in Bootle, Merseyside.

Officers who received a “concern for safety call” about a woman living in Worcester Road on Thursday discovered the body of a victim believed to be in her late 20s at 9:15pm, according to Merseyside Police Detective Superintendent Tim Keelan

Another woman in later 50s was discovered at 4am on Friday at a property in Brookhill Road, after officers broke in when no one answered the door.

A spokesman from Merseyside Police said the deaths are being treated as suspicious.

Mr Keelan said that the offender is thought to have known the victims, although the investigation is still at an early stage and the motive is unclear.

Officers are now carrying out house-to-house inquiries, and CCTV footage of the surrounding areas is being sought in a bid to uncover clues.

Both properties remain sealed off as forensic investigators examine the scenes.

A post mortem examination will now be carried out to establish the cause of their deaths. A formal identification is also yet to take place.

Anyone who saw any suspicious activity around either properties in the last week is asked to contact the major incident team on 0800 230 0600, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
