A body has been found in a suitcase in a canal in west London, police said.

Members of Scotland Yard’s marine policing unit and the fire brigade were involved in recovering the body from the Grand Union canal at about 2.30pm on Sunday.

“At this early stage, the death is being treated as suspicious,” a police spokesman told The Guardian.

“Detectives from homicide and major crime command are investigating and police are working to discover the identity of the deceased.”

No one has been arrested in connection with the discovery and a post mortem is due to be held.
