Two men have been arrested after a woman was found dead in her home in Bolton, Greater Manchester, said police.

The victim, believed to have been in her forties, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. Police were called to the property on Alexandra Road, Lostock, shortly before 10pm on Friday.

Police arrested two men, aged 72 and 73, on suspicion of murder upon arrival at the scene and both remain in custody for questioning.

An investigation into her death has been launched and detectives are appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

Detective Superintendent Howard Millington, from Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Crime division, said in a statement: “Firstly, I would like to pay respect to the woman who has tragically lost her life. My thoughts are with her family and friends at what must be an unimaginably devastating time.

“Whilst we have made two arrests, it is important to stress that we are keeping an open mind about the circumstances of the woman’s death and will work tirelessly to keep her family updated of any developments.

“We have a dedicated team of officers who are working hard to piece together exactly what has happened in order to provide those closest to the woman with much-deserved answers.”

Mr Millington added the crime scene remains in place while detectives investigate and informed local residents to expect a “higher police presence” in the area.

“I’d urge anyone with any issues or concerns to please speak to these officers, who are there to provide reassurance,” he said.

He confirmed the incident is being treated as a murder investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact police “at the very earliest opportunity” on 101, quoting incident number 3221 of 06/03/20 or call Crimestoppers.
