Boy, 12, arrested in rape investigation

A 12-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of raping two young girls, police said today.

Officers were called to reports that the girls were being attacked in a garage in Wigan, Greater Manchester.

The youth was detained and then released on bail.

A Greater Manchester Police spokeswoman said: "Shortly before 11.45pm on Sunday July 4, police received reports of two 12-year-old girls being raped in the Aspull area of Wigan.

"A 12-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of rape and bailed with strict conditions pending further inquiries, which are ongoing."
