A 13-year-old was remanded in custody today accused of murdering another teenager with a broken bottle.

The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is charged with fatally stabbing Jahmal Mason-Blair in the neck in Hackney, east London on Saturday.

Jahmal, 17, was found by police on a routine patrol in Amhurst Road early that morning and was pronounced dead soon afterwards.

He had dreamed of becoming a professional footballer and had attended the Tottenham Hotspur development centre for young players, his friends said.

The 13-year-old, who appeared at Redbridge Magistrates Court, was told his case would be adjourned until June 3 at Redbridge Youth Court.
