A man has died after a chase in Bradford, West Yorkshire Police has said.

The crash happened on the M606 in the early hours of Monday morning.

West Yorkshire said officers spotted a silver Audi A4 in the Heaton area of Bradford at about 2.45am. The driver did not stop for them.

They chased him until he crashed into a barrier on the M606 near the junction with the M62 “a short time later”, the force said.

The man was in his 30s. His family has been told of his death.

West Yorkshire Police has referred itself to the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

Road closures are still in place.

Highways England said it had “a large amount of safety barrier to repair”.

The IPCC said: “We have begun an independent investigation into a fatal road traffic incident at around 3am today following a police pursuit in Bradford this morning.

“The driver of an Audi vehicle died at the scene on the M606 southbound at the junction with the M62.

“After being notified by West Yorkshire Police, we have deployed investigators to the incident and the police post incident procedures.”
