A man was knifed to death on Wednesday close to south London’s Brixton underground station, the Metropolitan Police said.

Police were called at 8.18pm and found a man believed to be in his early twenties with a stab injury.

They immediately provided first aid and were joined by the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.

Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene, shortly after 8.45pm.

The victim’s family has been informed and are being supported by officers, but he has not been formally identified.

A man was arrested nearby on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

The police said a post-mortem examination would be held in due course.

A crime scene remains in place and enquiries continue.

The Met police are urging eyewitnesses to the attack to come forward with information and detectives from the Specialist Crime Command have been informed.
