A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering the school teacher Caroline Kayll.

Paul Robson, from Wallsend, North Tyneside, was detained in Glasgow late on Friday, Northumbria Police said.

It came five days after Ms Kayll was killed during an attack at an address in the Northumberland village of Linton on Sunday night.

The 47-year-old was rushed to hospital after neighbours reported a disturbance, but she later died.

A 15-year-old boy also suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, during the incident. The pair were not related.

Ms Kayll worked as a teacher at Atkinson House school which caters for children with social, emotional and mental health issues.

In a statement, the centre, which is in Seghill, said: “Our school community is saddened to hear the news of Caroline’s passing.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family at this very difficult time.”

A 58-year-old man, arrested earlier this week on suspicion of assisting an offender, has since been released under investigation, police added.
