Couple are bailed over fire deaths

Friday 20 July 2012 21:58 BST

A man and a woman arrested in connection with a house fire that killed six children have been released on bail.

The 34-year-old man and 29-year-old woman were arrested on Thursday morning, questioned and released yesterday, a spokeswoman for Derbyshire Police said.

Detectives investigating the fire, which claimed the lives of Jade Philpott, 10, and her brothers John, nine, Jack, eight, Jesse, six, Jayden, five, and 13-year-old Duwayne, continue to gather information, the spokeswoman added.

The six siblings died after the blaze swept through their home in Derby on 11 May.

The children's parents, Mick Philpott, 55, and his wife Mairead, 31, have been charged with murder and are due to go on trial next year.
