A woman was saved from a sex attacker by her dog as she was chased in Manchester, police have said.

The 20-year-old victim was walking her black Labrador in Ambleside Road, Flixton, when a man jumped out from behind a bush and asked: “Do you fancy a quickie?”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said the terrified woman ran and was chased.

“The victim tripped and fell, but as the offender approached her dog started to bark and growl at him, and he ran off,” he added.

Detective Constable Andrew Warren said there had been no similar incidents in the area that police were remaining vigilant.

“This has been recorded as a common assault, but there was a very real possibility that this could have been more serious had her dog not come to her defence,“ he added.

“The victim has sustained some minor injuries, but was shaken by the experience.

“Thankfully attacks like this are rare, and there is nothing to suggest that this is part of a wider threat to the public.

“Anyone who was in the area at the time, or who believes they saw anything which may assist our investigation, should contact police.”

The suspect is described as of large build, aroung 6ft tall and aged between 20 and 30 years old.

He spoke with a Salford accent and was wearing a black jacket with pale fur trim around the hood, black trousers and black Nike trainers.

Anyone with information on the assault, which happened between 4pm and 4.30pm on 12 December, is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
