A police officer who sexually assaulted a teenage girl and took indecent images of her, without her consent, has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Dominic Dunne's phone was found to contain indecent images and videos taken of a girl between the ages of 16 and 19. Some showed him sexually assaulting her.

Other images had been taken without her consent or while the teenager was unaware she was being photographed.

Dunne, from Romily in Stockport, was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault, voyeurism and taking indecent images of a child during a trial at Preston Combined Court.

The 26-year-old has been placed on the sex offenders register and is also subject to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order.

“Dunne has never taken any responsibility for his actions and has shown no remorse for his crimes,” said Detective Constable Susan Masheter, of Greater Manchester Police. “He is a manipulative individual who abused this girl’s trust for his own perverted gratification and now has a long time behind bars to contemplate the harm he’s caused.”

“I would like to thank the victim in this case for the bravery and dignity she has shown throughout this investigation and during the court case," she added. “I hope this result provides her with some comfort when coming to terms with the horrible crimes that have been committed against her.”

Robert Altham, the sentencing judge, said Dunne’s crimes had left his victim “unable to trust people”.

“She (the victim) is unable to trust people, she feels embarrassment, anxiety and shame, a loss of confidence in herself and in her body and a long lasting inability to trust men," he said. “She has admitted to herself she needs counselling as a result of the trauma caused to her.”

Dunne was working as a special constable for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) when he committed the offences.

He was suspended by the time his crimes were reported.

He had previously worked as a singing teacher.
