A man has been stabbed to death on a busy street close to Edinburgh Castle.

Emergency services were called to Johnston Terrace in the city centre at around 1.50pm on Thursday.

The man, aged in his 20s, was pronounced dead by Scottish Ambulance Service staff.

Police said another man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police Scotland Chief Inspector David Robertson said: "I would like to reassure local residents and businesses that there is not believed to be any ongoing risk to the public.

"Johnston Terrace and King's Stables Road are currently closed and people are asked to avoid the area, where possible."

Anyone who witnessed the stabbing should contact Police Scotland, quoting incident 1876 of 30 May.
