A mother has been jailed for life for beating, blinding and murdering her 11-month baby son.

Emma Wilson, 25, from Windsor, was told by Judge Stephen Kramer QC at the Old Bailey that she must serve at least 14 years in prison before being considered for parole.

Callum died in hospital in March 2011 after being found with an unsurvivable brain injury, a detached retina, and multiple fractures.

Wilson had tried to blame the injuries on the baby’s 23-month-old brother.

Detective Superintendent Ian Hunter said the sentence reflected “the abuse Callum suffered at the hands of someone entrusted to care for him and the pain he must have felt”. Wilson was convicted of murder in December by a jury following a five-week trial.
