A violent offender on the run from a secure hospital may be in the Bristol area, police said.

Suffolk Police are continuing to appeal for help to trace Luke Sparks who absconded from a secure hospital in Palgrave, near Diss, yesterday.

The 21-year-old forced his way out of the hospital together with two other patients just before 1am.

Two of the patients, Jason Williams and Ross Beeby, were detained by officers on the A140 in Norfolk at around 1pm yesterday. They have been returned to the hospital.

Officers have information to suggest Sparks, convicted of a serious assault in Taunton, Somerset in 2008, may be in the Bristol area - he has connections to the area with family and friends.

He is described as a white male, with short black hair, of average size and a muscular build. He was wearing a grey hooded top, grey shorts and black, grey and white Nike trainers.

Members of the public are asked not to approach him.
