Two women have been jailed for using a “honeytrap” to coax their victim from his home so they could burgle his house.

Amy Moffat, 25, convinced a man in his 40s he was a “genuine love interest”, luring him to the pub while her friend Sarah Ireland, 26, raided his home.

Both women were described as “calculated and heartless” at Isleworth Crown Court on Thursday, where they were sentenced to two years imprisonment for burglary.

Moffatt, from Northolt, north west London, spotted the male victim at a Sainsbury’s filling station in Lombardy Retail Park, Hayes on 21 May.

Moffatt spoke to the man and encouraged him to give her his telephone number, while Ireland, from Hayes, Middlesex, looked on from the car.

Later that evening Moffatt took the victim to a pub near Botwell Crescent, Hayes, during which time he told Moffatt where he lived.

Moffatt then relayed his address to Ireland, who arrived at the house within minutes.

In the company of a male associate, Ireland forced open the door to find a teenage boy present at the property.

Ireland spoke to the boy while the male suspect searched the upstairs bedroom, stealing personal belongings and jewellery.

The two suspects left moments after the boy phoned his mother, who phoned the police.

Detectives from Hillingdon Burglary Squad conducted a detailed enquiry, during which the male victim revealed he had been uncertain about the woman he met the night.

Officers identified the women through the petrol station’s CCTV footage, which showed the black Vauxhall Astra, Morffatt and Ireland had been driving.

Both women were arrested in May and pleaded guilty to the offences. The male suspect still remains unknown.

Detective Constable Okiki Okunola of Hillingdon’s Burglary Squad said: “Both women played on the vulnerability of a boy in his own home and the trust of a man who thought Moffatt was a genuine love interest.

“The speed both women worked to that evening clearly demonstrates how calculated and heartless they were.

“Tackling burglary remains a focus point for our policing team and a number of proactive, intelligence-led operations are underway to detect and prevent the seasonal rise in burglary associated with longer and darker nights.

“We have already seen a significant reduction in residential burglary and this work will continue well into the New Year.”
