A 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of murdering Jermaine Goupall in Croydon in south London.

Jermaine, who was 15 years old, was found knifed in Georgia Road at 11pm in Thornton Heath. He died shortly afterwards and a murder investigation was launched.

The schoolboy was attacked with a machete after an evening with friends at a cinema and restaurant.

The 15-year-old was with with a group of friends when they were confronted by three men armed men wearing balaclavas

"Jermaine tried to run away from the men, but sadly was attacked about 20 yards from the shop suffering a number of stab injuries," detective chief inspector Tony Lynes said, confirming the arrests.

He called for friends of the teenager to come forward with information.

“We understand they may be reluctant to do so, they may be in fear or concerned about the investigation or the impact of this incident," he said.

“But we have trained officers who can deal with them sensitively and we urge them to come forward because they may have vital information.”

A post-mortem examination gave cause of death as a single stab wound to Jermaine's leg.
