Jury out again in doctor's 'spiked tea' trial

The jury trying the case of a doctor accused of spiking his lover's tea to make her have an abortion retired to consider its verdicts for a third day today.

Married hospital consultant Dr Edward Erin, 44, of Kensington, west London, denies obtaining and administering drugs to induce abortion, and two charges of attempting to administer them in coffee and orange juice.

Secretary Bella Prowse, 33, claims she found a yellow powder in the bottom of her cup on February 1 last year after drinking Earl Grey tea which Erin made for her.

The doctor told the court it was merely fur from an old kettle.

The two admit having a brief affair. Miss Prowse gave birth later to a healthy boy.
