A shamed university lecturer facing jail for having sex with an under-age girl admitted child pornography charges today.

Trevor Jackson, 46, pleaded guilty to two charges of making indecent photographs of a child in April last year.

The biomedicine lecturer, of Lyndhurst Avenue, Jesmond, Newcastle, also admitted three charges of the possession of indecent photographs of a child from June last year.

Three other charges of making indecent photographs of a child were ordered to lie on file by a judge at Newcastle Crown Court.

In November, Jackson pleaded guilty to five counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming and five counts of sexual activity with a child.

The plea was made on the basis that full sexual intercourse only took place twice, after the girl turned 14.

The court heard Jackson befriended the girl when she was 13 and made several trips for hotel meetings with the child.

The offences, which happened between September 2005 and February 2006, came to light last year.

Jackson, who resigned his post at Newcastle University last October, will be sentenced for the pornography and child sex offences on February 5.

Releasing Jackson on conditional bail, Judge John Evans said: "Your case is now adjourned until February 5.

"A pre-sentence report is in the process of being prepared and it will not be completed until February 5."
