Liverpool stabbing: Two men charged with murder after city centre knife attack after Champions League final

A teenager has been charged with murder after a 33-year-old man who was knifed to death in Liverpool city centre shortly after the Champions League final. Another has also been charged with the killing.

George Bala Lloyd-Evans died in hospital after being stabbed in the chest in the early hours of Sunday morning, Merseyside Police said.

Police were called to a brawl outside the Wild Cat and Ink bars on Back Colquitt Street in the early hours of 2 June.

The incident occurred as football fans elsewhere in the city centre celebrated Liverpool FC's European triumph.

Ramal Edwards, 19, and Kieran Perry, 24, both from the Toxeth area, were arrested following the incident and have both been charged with murder. They will both appear at Liverpool City Magistrates’ Court later this week.

Police officers found two men with knife wounds and chased a third man who was arrested nearby.

A knife believed to have been used in the incident was recovered from the scene.

Mr Lloyd-Evans was taken to the Royal Liverpool University Hospital where he later died.

A post mortem revealed that the cause of death was a single stab wound to the heart.

Detectives do not believe the stabbing was related to the Champions League victory celebrations in the city centre, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Former Liverpool player Howard Gayle paid tribute to his friend Mr Lloyd-Evans, also known as Bala O’Rourke, on Facebook.

“Woke up in Vegas this morning to what should have been a momentous occasion after last CL [Champions League] win. But the sad, sad news of Bala O’Rourke apparently stabbed to death.

“Our community will be on the floor again right now with the loss of a true gentleman, he will be missed.”
