The mother of murdered Daniel Pelka hanged herself in prison, an inquest has heard.

Magdelena Luczak, 29, was found dead in her prison cell at HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire at 7.15am on Tuesday.

An inquest into her death was opened and adjourned at Derbyshire Coroner's Court this morning. The cause of death was recorded as hanging.

Luczak and her partner Mariusz Krezolek, both originally from Poland, were convicted of murder and sentenced to at least 30 years in jail in August 2013 after blaming each other for the head injury which ultimately caused Daniel's death.

Daniel, who was born on July 15 2007, weighed just 1st 9lbs when he died in March 2012.
