Man breaks traffic warden’s shoulder after being given ticket

A man broke a traffic warden’s shoulder after noticing he was being given a ticket.

Daniel Corneille, 47, had parked his car on double yellow lines, blocking paving designed to help blind people cross the road.

When he spotted a warden issuing him a ticket on the Isle of Sheppey, he walked over, began shouting and swearing, and aggressively pushed the warden into the window of a shop opposite.

As the warden tried to stand up after the first push, Corneille shouted in his face and then pushed him again, fracturing the warden’s shoulder in the process.

Detectives in Kent used footage from the warden's body camera, and were able to identify Corneille using CCTV.

He was arrested and pleaded guilty to a charge of grievous bodily harm, and was sentenced to two years' jail at Maidstone Crown Court, Kent Police said.

Investigating officer PC Jez Chittim said it was an "unprovoked attack on the victim who was doing his job and did not deserve to be injured for this."

"Corneille blamed the incident on 'having a bad day', but a lot of people have bad days and do not lose control and act in such a violent manner. I hope that this sentencing acts as a reminder to others to not behave in the same manner," PC Chittim said.
