Man charged with baby death

A 21-year-old man was last night charged with the murder of a baby girl.

The seven-month-old, who has not been named, was taken by ambulance to Whiston Hospital, Merseyside, on May 5 after suffering a serious head injury.

The baby, from St Helens, Merseyside, was transferred to Alder Hey Children's Hospital where she died two days later.

A post-mortem examination showed the baby had suffered significant head trauma.

A Merseyside Police spokesman said: "A man has been charged with murder following the death of a seven-month-old baby girl in St Helens in May this year.

"David Ward, 21, of Greenfields Road, Dentons Green, St Helens, will appear before magistrates in St Helens tomorrow."
