A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found in a flat, police said today.

Officers were called to an address in Gotham Street in the Highfields area of Leicester at 3.11pm yesterday, where they found the woman's body.

A 34-year-old man was later arrested and remains in police custody today.

The victim has not yet been identified and Leicestershire Constabulary has not revealed the nature of her injuries.

Detective Chief Inspector Neil Castle said: "I would appeal to members of the public to come forward with any information that might help us establish what has happened.

"We'd like to talk to anyone who was in the area of Gotham Street in Highfields from the evening prior to the body being discovered to about 3pm on Friday afternoon.

"Gotham Street is close to the busy London Road so hopefully someone may have seen something that could help us."

Anyone with any information is urged to contact Leicestershire Constabulary on 0116 222 2222.
