A man is in critical condition following a mass brawl at a pub in Derby.

He and another man, who sustained serious injuries, were both taken to hospital following the incident at the Corner Pin in Chellaston, which took place at 2:20am on Sunday morning.

The brawl is believed to have involved around 50 people, according to police.

Derbyshire Constabulary has arrested five men, aged between 17 and 29, and one woman, aged 31, on suspicion of violent disorder.

The woman has been released on bail but the men are still being questioned.

A 27-year-old man, who officers believe was assaulted with some sort of weapon, remains in hospital in critical condition.

Following the incident, the area around the pub was cordoned off.

The reason behind the brawl is not yet known - the spokesperson for Derbyshire police said it was still “investigating the circumstances around it”.

Zowie Travers-Ayre, who lives locally, told the Derby Telegraph: “Fifty is a lot of people. They need to look at what’s going on there if there are serious fights like that.”

Officers are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.
