Man shot by police in Kilburn after Taser 'had no effect'

A man was shot in London after officers twice tried to discharge a Taser which had 'no effect', Scotland Yard has confirmed.

The shooting took place in Kilburn Lane in Brent, north-west London.

Officers had been called following reports of a disturbance in Claremont Road in west London at around 2.45am on Thursday, where they found a man who was believed to be in possession of a knife.

He fled and was followed to Kilburn Lane, where, according to a statement issued by the Metropolitan Police, police "discharged Taser but with no apparent effect on the man".

Firearms officers then went to the scene to support local officers and "Taser was discharged, again with no apparent effect". The man was then shot by police.

He has been taken to a central London hospital for treatment, and there are no reports of any other injuries.

The Met said that the directorate of professional standards has since been informed.
