Missing toddler Audrey Nyanor was found safe and well in north London today, a police spokesman said.

A 31-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident, while the Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the circumstances of the disappearance.

Audrey's mother has been told and the child is being looked after by officers at the station.

The child went missing after being handed over to a woman at Walworth police station, south London, on Thursday.

Officers had arrested Audrey's mother earlier that morning at an address in De Laune Street, Walworth, in connection with alleged immigration offences.

Mrs Owsuah said an officer asked her daughter who they could call to look after the baby and initially contacted Mrs Boakye's stepfather.

He visited the station but said he could not take the child because he was working, and officers were then given the number of another relative who agreed to come and collect Audrey.

The 18-month-old toddler was later handed over to a woman claiming to be that relative.
