Murder investigation launched after woman found dead in Forest of Dean

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a woman in the Forest of Dean.

Police officers were called by ambulance services to a house in Newnham, Gloucestershire at around 11:20pm on Friday.

The force said a 56-year-old woman, found in a property in The Slad, Popes Hill, had suffered fatal injuries.

A 54-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder as part of a police investigation into the incident.

The woman’s next of kin have been informed and the coroner has been notified.

“Police are making inquiries to determine whether the incident was an accident or suspicious and as part of the investigation have arrested a 54-year-old man on suspicion of murder,” Gloucestershire Police said.

“He currently remains in police custody. A home office post-mortem is now taking place to determine the cause of death.”
