Men run off with display shelf of mobile phones from shop in brazen robbery

A gang stormed an O2 store and walked out with a display of goods, in full view of passers-by.

The four men, dressed in black, move around the shop unhindered by staff, video shows.

The group initially starts wrecking the displays at the Northampton branch of O2 in a shopping precinct.

They also leap onto stands and randomly kick things, apparently unsure what to do or how to wreck the store, before one lifts up an entire display unit to steal.

Another of helps carry it, and all four then make their escape, still watched by shoppers.

The brazen theft was captured on a mobile phone by an onlooker and posted on Facebook.

Commenters pointed out the phones were demonstration dummies so would not work outside the shop, and the gang could be identified as they were not wearing masks.

Some users said shop staff were held at the back of the store and prevented from intervening.

Others reported that passers-by had chased the gang, but Northamptonshire Police said the men were still at large and no arrests had been made.

A spokeswoman said the gang had dropped the display board, which a member of the public returned to the store. Nobody was injured, she added.

Officers are appealing for information and for witnesses to come forward.
