A police officer was accused today of assaulting a man he arrested after being called to a street fight.

Pc Michael Ray, of the Metropolitan Police, was investigated over an incident in Denmark Road, Ealing, in the early hours of December 5 last year.

Independent officials were called in after a suspect claimed he was assaulted as a group of officers and Ray detained him nearby.

Ray, who is based in Ealing, will appear before City of Westminster Magistrates' Court on November 25.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said he has been summonsed to answer the offence of causing actual bodily harm.

The police watchdog managed an internal inquiry by the Met's directorate of professional standards.

A Met spokesman said Ray is on restricted duties.
