Police have released an image of the man suspected of a brutal rape in a John Lewis store’s car park last week.

A woman in her late 20s was raped on Friday night at around 7pm in the department store’s car park in Cheadle after a man dragged her from her car and attacked her in the bushes.

Following the attack, the man ran off in the direction of Wilmslow Road.

The woman, who visited St Mary's Sexual Assault Referral Centre in Manchester on Friday, reported the incident to Manchester Greater Police on Monday.

Police urged anyone who may recognise the man in the e-fit , or think they saw an individual matching his description in the nearby area on Friday evening, to contact them.

The suspect is described as being an Asian man, roughly 40 years old, of medium build. He is described as having a thick black mono-brow, heavy black hair, and heavily pock-marked and open-pored facial skin. He was described as wearing black jogging bottoms.

“News of this attack has understandably shocked the local community and our officers have been speaking to the community over the past couple of days to try and identify the man responsible,” Detective Inspector Roger Edwards from GMP’s Stockport division said.

“I am appealing to anyone that thinks they may recognise the man in this e-fit, who is described as having deep pock-type scars on his face, to get in touch. Or did you perhaps see this man anywhere around the retail park near to John Lewis or Sainsburys on Friday evening?

“You may think your information is trivial, but it could be vital to our investigation, so please call us and tell us what you know.”
