Police have warned the public not to approach a convicted killer who has disappeared after being released on licence.

Joseph Bagley, 66, had been living in Maidstone, Kent, since he was freed from prison in January – 40 years after being jailed for murdering a taxi driver.

He failed to turn up for his curfew on Sunday and has not been seen this that morning.

He is believed to have links to Surrey, Buckinghamshire, and Scotland.

Detective Inspector Mark Parry, of Surrey Police, said: “We are pursuing all possible lines of enquiry with regards to Joseph Bagley’s whereabouts, but we need the public’s help to find him.

"I believe that he could lash out if he feels threatened, or that he is going to be returned to prison, so I am asking the public not to approach him.”

Bagley, then 25, was jailed for life in December 1978 for murdering taxi driver Timothy Hall in Maidenhead, Berkshire. A 16-year-old boy was also convicted.

He was released four months ago on a supervised life licence.

Bagley is white, with blue eyes and grey hair. He is about 5ft 11 tall and of medium build.

Police said he had “a memorial tattoo” on his left arm and a scar on one of the fingers on his right hand.
