Sheffield crash: ‘Loving’ father and his one-year-old son named as victims

A "loving" father and his one-year-old son have been named as two of the four people killed when their car was hit by a vehicle being pursued by police in Sheffield.

Adnan Ashraf Jarral, 35, and his son, Usman Adnan Jarral, died when Mr Jarral's VW people carrier was hit by a VW Golf on Friday night.

A 50-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman also died in the crash in the Darnall area of Sheffield.

They are understood to have been friends of Mr Jarral's wife, Tahreen Jarral, who is recovering in hospital.

Two other people – a 22-year-old woman and a three-year-old girl – also remain in hospital with serious injuries following the collision.

Three men travelling in the Golf, aged 23, 17 and 18, have been arrested and remain in custody after being treated for minor injuries, South Yorkshire Police said.

Mr Jarral's uncle, Shafqat Mirza, said his nephew was a "loving father" who was "full of life" and extremely proud of his two sons and step-son.

“It's been absolutely devastating for all of us and all the family," he said.

”Here we have a young man who was with us, around us, always asking everybody how we are, and now we find that he is no longer with us.

“It's something that we can't come to terms with.”

"Around that spot there's been loads of accidents in recent days." he added. "There are car chases. People are speeding up and down."

"If they could just put themselves in our shoes and see what kind of devastation it causes then they might learn a lesson. They might think twice about doing things."

The crash happened outside the home of Tufail Hussain, 80, who was one of the first people to get to the scene of the accident.

“It was just terrible. It's the worst thing I have ever seen," Mr Hussain said.

“The whole of Darnall is in shock. We are all traumatised and it will take a long time for us to get over this.”

Dan Jarvis, mayor of the Sheffield City region, tweeted: "Tragic news from #Sheffield today. My thoughts are with the families of those who died, and with the local community in Darnall."

Because the Golf was being pursued before the collision, the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) for review.

Jude Ashmore, temporary detective chief inspector, said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the families of the victims who have lost loved ones during this incredibly tragic incident.

“A high number of resources were deployed to the scene last night, with officers from all of the emergency services working through the night and into this morning to assist.

"Our priority now is to support the victims’ families and those affected, and work hard to determine the exact circumstances around what happened.”

On Sunday flowers were left by the side of the road but all traces of the crash had been removed.
